Character Information
Country Name:
Repubblica italiana || Italian Republic
(southern italy)
Human Name:
Lovino Vargas
Gender:
Male
Appearance:
Personality:
Lovino sees the world in dull shades of black and white. He's not very easy to get along with(not that he tries making it any easier), formerly pushed around by his mafia, with possessive tendencies and a moody personality. He tends to take advantage of the people who decide to show him kindness, whether he realizes it or not(though it's more than likely the latter). Anything that comes out of your mouth can and will more than likely be used against you, compliments, insults and neutral statements alike. He does make exceptions for pretty ladies and old women with large purses or scary husbands, though.
Lovino barricades himself behind a façade of 'toughness'. It's not a very good façade, but it manages to keep most people away. On the occasions that Lovino acts like himself, or his walls are torn down, one will find out he has a good heart and low self esteem.
However, it's rare Lovino lets this happen.
While he tends to rush into things, around half the time he genuinely means well. The other half or so, he just means to get things done-- no matter what consequences they spur, physical or emotional.
Most of the time he reacts on impulse, without thinking his actions through. Even though he claims to be in control, he's not. Usually it's best not to believe a word that comes out of his mouth. Unless he's telling you to stop touching his curl. Seriously, don't touch that. Stupid bastard.
If you're like anyone else, Lovino comes off as being an egotistical brat, which is true to a certain point. Really, even after hundreds of years of thinking, he isn't sure how he actually feels about most things. Unsure of what reactions are best, Lovino's decided that it's probably best to just drive people away.
Even when he's clearly quite vulnerable, he's not one to accept help. There's several possible explanations for this, one of which being he merely enjoys his independece, and another being he doesn't want to appear weak. He's never been a nation regarded for its strength, and has come to terms with the fact that he more than likely never will be-- But that doesn't mean Lovino Vargas can't be strong.
Likes:
★ Tomatoes, siestas, pretty women, the simple things in life.
★ When people shut up and listen to him. He has an opinion too, and while he doesn't exactly prefer yelling it.. sometimes it's the only way people actually listen.
★ Procrastinating.. but, on the contrary, he also likes getting things done.
★ Cooking. He's not particularly great at it, but it's a hell of a lot better than most other nations' food.
★ Silence, every now and then.
Dislikes:
✖ Germany, France, Prussia, etc.
✖ Foreign food.
✖ Foreigners.
✖ Being pushed around by his own mafia.
✖ Being underestimated.
✖ Ignorant women.
✖ Loud men.
✖ Losing sleep.
✖ Going hungry. It's always a possibility, if he can't find decent food.
✖ Being alone for too long.
Strengths:
♔ If there's anything Lovino's good at, it's taking over a situation. If given enough time to think(or, on occasion, if angered enough), Lovino is actually able to form extremely good plans. He's always been pretty decent at talking his way out of bad places, and is good at thinking in tough situations. In other words, he's a particularly fast thinker and knows how to get himself out of shitty situations.
♔He's particularly wonderful at hauling ass. He can run like hell.
♔Determination. Once Lovino sets his mind on something he'll do anything it takes to get it, no matter what boundaries he has to cross or how much he has to lower his façade's walls.
♔ Lying. Lovino can usually get himself into or out of any possible situation, being able to think of an elaborate but realistic lie on the the spot.
Weaknesses:
✖ Lovino dislikes it when people mention his past and finds himself cringing whenever it's brought up, even at good memories(as they tend to lead to bad ones).
✖ While he enjoys his independence, he doesn't enjoy being alone. Being alone for too long gives him too much time to think, usually leading to the most pessimistic of his thoughts.
✖ Paranoia. Quiet but frequent noises get to him very easily, and it's not rare for even the smallest of shadows to spook him.
Fears:
☣ Failure.
☣ Being left alone.
☣ Rejection.
What happened before and shortly after the apocalypse?:
Lovino had felt something terrible brewing, he swore it. But he just brushed it off as childish paranoia, nothing more than pessimism. The weather was more harsh than usual, but that didn't have to mean anything. Times change, people changed, so surely, the weather must change too. It didn't mean anything.
However, this didn't mean the Italian was any less paranoid. Taking the advice of the voices in the back of his head, he stocked up on things. Then he locked himself inside of his house and waited. He wasn't sure what he was waiting for, but he did know that he was waiting for something and that particular something was terrible.
He couldn't sleep. Thoughts were rushing through his head, driving him insane. His stomach churned, his sides hurt and after a failed attempt to get out of bed, realised he couldn't do anything.
People were dying. His people. He could feel southern Italy being torn apart, buildings, families, cities, towns, everything. He couldn't do anything about it. Nothing at all.
Lovino forced himself out of his house, into his city. He sat and watched his city, what was left of it. And then he blacked out.
He woke up hours, maybe even a day later. It was early morning, not that he could actually tell. The sky was dark enough to pass as night, and honestly, all he wanted to do was lay down and sleep. But he couldn't.
A sore and broken Lovino brought himself to his feet, almost immediately deciding not to bother with what was left of his home. Trying to keep his head clear of all thoughts, he left his home behind.
What are your character's top priorities and goals?
To put it simply, Lovino just wants a little bit of order back in his life. Maybe not the world the way it was before. Nah, it was kind of a shitty place, in his opinion. The world could do better. Maybe this could serve as some kind of fucked up lesson.
He honestly does think that the world could do better.
He wants the world to go back to the way it was, except better. He honestly thinks that if everyone just works the fuck together, and they can get through this shit..
That the world will be able to change for the better. Maybe.
Sample Post:
(from a WWIII rp, actually. thought it was quite fitting, in its own twisted way.)
There were many times when Lovino had thought 'all hope is lost'. There were few times when he actually meant it. Even fewer times when he was actually right. Now was one of those times.
Trudging through the abandoned streets of Rome, Lovino wondered how the hell he was even up and moving. Being a nation simply didn't explain it. The once lively city was now void of all life, and the Italian was more than sure that it would be for the next few years(if not longer). The damage that had been done would take years to fix, especially since there was no longer anyone around to fix it. Marvelous.
Lovino lurched forward, his hands clenched into tight fists. His eyesight was going. Looks like the devastation was finally getting to him. Whatever, he'd expected it. How could he not? Being a nation, he could feel that the damage done to Rome was almost identical to the rest of southern Italy. A few small sections remained almost untouched, but he was having trouble deciding whether it was a miracle or harsh and unusual torture. Probably the latter.
The nation staggered along for about twenty feet or so before he lost his balance, tripping over his own feet. Lovino hit the ground with a loud thud, landing by the ruins of what appeared to have been a small family-run store.
His eyesight... it was definitely going, no doubt about it. Lovino's vision was clouded by large patches of black, the smells and sounds around him becoming stronger and louder, taking over his senses. Sitting up on his knees, the Italian tried to take in whatever he could before his eyesight was gone.
The sun was high in the sky, unfitting for a day like this. Not that he could really see it, through the grey hue of the sky. Instead of blue, the sky was an unsightly shade of grey, one that Lovino had often wore. If he made it out of this, he was never wearing that colour again.
He snorted(as much as he could at least, smoke now clogging his throat) at the thought. Of course he'd make it out alive. He was a god damn nation. He was still here. This wasn't the end of the world. He was going to live. It took more than this to strike down a nation.
...didn't it? The Italian wasn't exactly sure.
...nah, it definitely did. He'd seen other nations survive worse-- other nations. Lovino forced himself to his feet and looked around(simply out of habit) with one word running through his brain:
Feliciano. Where the hell was Feliciano? Oh lord, oh lord, oh lord. Obviously, most nations didn't give a shit that there was two Italy's. While Feliciano and Lovino both exist, there was only one Italy.
Which meant Feliciano had been got this shit too. Shit, shit, shit. He didn't know just what the hell was going on, but.. well. Lovino couldn't exactly do much in this condition, could he?
After taking one or two steps forward Lovino had tumbled over again, hacking and coughing. He took in gasps of air but only managed to fill his lungs with smoke. Crap, crap, crap. This was not... this really was not...
Lovino hadn't noticed it at first, but the smells and sounds of the world around him were fading, taking the feeling in his limbs with them. He took in another gasp of air but only found smoke.
This really wasn't good, to put it simply.

Did you read the rules? So, you guys ever heard about that "England" guy? Yeah, you have? Well god damn, you better have. He's a fuckin' country, man! How the hell could you not fucking know what England is? Dumbass.
Anyway, don't tell 'em I said this, but he's kinda cool. Just kinda.
(his rper on the other hand is quite lovely
not to mention the character himself. >3>)
Favorite Pairing: I.. honestly don't ship Lovino with anyone, at the moment. My non-Lovino OTP, however, is HKChina. I don't mind GerIta either. Ahaha..
