Character Information
Country Name: France
Human Name: Francis Bonnefoy
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Personality: Despite what most people think upon first meeting the Frenchman - or even after knowing him for a good while -, France is a very complex nation. On the surface, he's openly amorous, often spouting sexual comments and letting his hands roam free without much restraint. He's very romantic, and knows how to entice men and women alike to come to bed with him. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that he's a very 'Romeo' type character, either, because he enjoys winning the hearts of others through flowery, sugar-coated words and natural charms.
However, those who have an opportunity to see the side of Francis Bonnefoy that he tries very hard to keep hidden will be surprised at what they find. In reality, France, for all his talks about amour and whatnot, has rarely actually fallen in love. He's had brief interests, of course, but they were nothing but passing fancies. He'll have short-term partners every now and then, but long-term partners few and far in between. That's only for falling in love, though; love in general is something completely different. He'll be glad to spread it around, to be completely submerged and surrounded by love. That's partially why he isn't afraid to strip and show off his body, which he considers to be a work of art that everyone should adore and appreciate.
France is, for the most part, a very easy-going, friendly, and bright nation. He will prefer to stay on the happier side of things, and can easily slip into conversation with anyone. He loves talking about the arts, literature, and, surprisingly, philosophy - even more so if they are French. He is extremely proud of his culture and his people, and believes that it's superior to the food, culture, etc. of everyone else - particularly the English. France enjoys arguing (arguing, mind you, not fighting), and will often be seen disagreeing with everything England says in order to rouse his fellow nation into an argument. He loves fashion, too. Beauty is very important to him, and staying in fashion even in times of war and despair is something he considers vital.
As anyone will see once they see the Frenchman, France is very stubborn. If he sets his mind on something, rest assured, he will not give up. He'll chase after it and keep at it for days and months and years - centuries, if it takes that long. He's rather selfish, too, and often things to go 'his way, or no way at all'. This is particularly true when England is involved. If England likes or supports something, it's almost guaranteed that he'll take the opposing side. This changes, however, once a third party enters the scene, in which case he'll side with Arthur, if only for that brief moment. From this, you can see that France is a joker, and enjoys life. He's not above playing practical jokes on people to get interesting and amusing reactions frmo them, and loves practicing his wit.
Lastly, France is an old nation. He's survived for many years, rising up as a grand empire under Napoleon and falling to Germany's feet during World War II. Despite all his romantic tendencies, he can be realistic when need be. He can be quite serious, though he tends to be more jovial and light when there are others around him. Rest assured, though; there are many, many people that never see that side of him, even after knowing him for centuries. It's a rather vulnerable and embarrassing side of him that he tends to keep hidden. And besides, being so serious and gloomy all the time isn't very fun.
Likes: Beauty, French language/culture/people/food, sex, love, the arts, physical contact, wine, relaxing,
Dislikes: Losing, England, unfashionable things and people, war, being ignored, loneliness, ugly things
Strengths: Strategic planning (While not on the level as Germany or England, France is a witty nation, and he's been a powerful empire before.); hope (he's rather good at remaining optimistic during even the most hopeless of situations; it's almost inspirational); seductiveness (it's undeniable that the Frenchman has great charm, and that he's not afraid to use it); love (some may call this a weakness, but France considers this to be a strength. He loves love, is in love with love, and will do anything to spread love.)
Weaknesses: Selfishness (France is unbelievably selfish; it'll be very rare for him to sacrifice himself for the sake of others); easily distracted (that is, by love, by passion, and by emotions); beauty (he loves beauty, and can hardly resist anything that is 'cute' or 'beautiful').
Fears: Lack of love; being forgotten; death; losing; falling.
What happened before and shortly after the apocalypse?: France was enjoying a nice, aged glass of wine when the apocalypse struck. The Frenchman immediately panicked and ducked for cover. Fortunately, he didn't receive many terrible injuries, aside from a few flesh wounds and perhaps a sprained wrist, but he was forced to watch his precious architecture fall and his people die. He'd thought it to be just a terrible earthquake that struck Paris, at first, but he felt it - his lands were being torn apart, ravaged by a plethora of natural disasters, and his people were dying. It was a terrifying, painful thing, feeling everything he stood for, everything he represented and fought for, wither away and die.
The first thing France did as soon as the worst of the disasters passed was look for his leaders, but to no avail. Everyone was scattered, if not dead, and he'd be better off helping his people try and recover. That was difficult, though; his people were still panicking, and he was constantly having his resources stolen by neighbors that shared his borders, and even the English. Still, he drove on, because he was too stubborn to fall. He was France - viva la France! - and he had fallen before. But he'd also risen up after being forced to submit to Germany, and he was certain that he could do it again. So France worked and worked, helping those he could as he traveled throughout his lands. Still, he knew it was not enough... that eventually, he'd have to reach outside for help.
What are your character's top priorities and goals? To recover and restart. Yes, the Calamity was devastating, but he prefers to see it as a new chance at life - a chance to start all over again, from the very beginning.
Sample Post: It was gone. Well... not gone, but simply destroyed. France would've preferred it if nothing was there at all.
The Frenchman's lips were set in a straight line, betraying none of his inner turmoil as his light blue eyes took in the collapsed and bent form of his beloved Eiffel Tower. It was lying on its side, crushing the many buildings underneath its weight, and several parts of it were dotted with a dark, dusty brown. Blood. His people's blood.
Slowly, Francis turned his gaze to the left, taking in the ruins of his beloved capital as he did so. Was it not just yesterday that this city was bustling and alive, so full of love and life and beauty? Why was it so that today, not even a full 24 hours later, it was nothing but a graveyard?
He wanted to cry, scream, and fight. He was frustrated and upset, depressed and helpless; in his mind raged a plethora of thoughts that urged him to just give up now. But he couldn't. His eyes remained on the French flag, slightly tattered and burnt on the edges, but still in one piece, flying freely and proudly in the mild wind. It hung from the bent pole of one of the tall buildings that used to be in the area, just a foot or so above the ground.
Vive la France.
