Character Information
Country Name: Finland
Human Name: Tino Väinämöinen
Gender: Male
Appearance:
At first glance, many people think the poor Finlander is a woman. Tino has bright blonde, almost white hair accompanied by violet eyes (sometimes they look blue in the right light). His skin is pale, for there isn't much sun where he comes from. His eyelashes are longer than they should be for a male, and his voice is even less masculine than the average male. His frame is small and thin, and his overall appearance can be described as 'delicate'. Upon his cheeks there is a pink hue which won't go away. The clothes he wears are light blue, one of his favorite colors. His feet are adorned with boots, which prove quite useful for walking in the snow. Upon his head is a white beret, and on his neck is a little iron cross, which holds significance to him. More than often, the Finn can be seen smiling.
...or at least, that was how it was in the past. These days, Tino wears whatever he can find while wandering, and the smile upon his face is quite strained, as though he were forcing it out. If he's not smiling nervously, then he's usually glancing about, as though he was afraid of something. His overall weight has deteriorated a little too, he's skinnier than most people should be. This is mostly due to making sure that the members of his 'family' get enough food. Around his waist is a holster with two pistols and on his back is a rifle, for self defense and for hunting. He also carries around a duffel bag filled with what he salvaged from what used to be his home.
Personality:
Sweet, simple, and gentle, Tino is rather adultlike but easily embarrassed; especially so around Berwald. The blonde can keep his head in an emergency however, proving that he’s smart as well. The man is talkative and very friendly overall despite his hard past. Berwald calls him his ‘wife’, and though it bothers him a little…Tino really doesn’t mind too much. He's also somewhat of an optimist. He's slowly learning how to trust others, his cautious nature gives him a little hint of paranoia. He constantly keeps a smile on his face in order to hide his true feelings. Yes, Tino bottles his feelings. Sometimes, the blonde wishes he had moments to just let it all out, but...he doesn't want to worry anyone.
If you ask him about that, he will blatantly deny it. Tino often comes off as motherly, especially to his 'little brothers', Nikolai (Norway, name is subject to change.) and Egil (Iceland, name is subject to change). He's good to go to for advice, because he'll wait until you're done talking before offering his thoughts. When he's alone, the blonde is quiet and reserved. Around strangers, he's cheery and a little untrusting, but polite nonetheless.
There is another side to his sweet face, however. If you push him too far then he can and will snap, and a personality almost like the one of a mother bear will appear. This seems to happen the most if his 'child' Peter is endangered. Or if certain people pushe him just a little too far, as was seen in the war between another nation and himself. He won't hesitate to hurt someone in between himself and Peter, or himself and Berwald, for that matter. But then, it's always best not to judge a book by its cover, right?

★ Snow, he grew up in it and still lives in it.
★ Saunas, they relax the Finn.
★ Saliamakki, a sweet candy from his homelands.

¤ The color orange, though he can't exactly explain why...
¤ Losing someone close, he's done it before and he'd hate to do it again.
¤ People who are cruel for no reason, the reasoning behind this should be obvious.

¤ Violence, it scares the man.
Strengths:+Understanding Sweden
+An ability to cheer up the atmosphere. Tino by nature is a very happy-go-lucky person, and his mentality tends to rub off on people. He can bring the conversation around from a depressing point to a happier one with a few words and a smile, even in the current condition of the world, he is an optimist.
+Optimism. No matter where the man is, he'll be sure to make the best of the situation in whatever way he can. He truly and honestly does believe that everything will turn out to be okay. This thought is what keeps him going, what fuels him to go on, even in the given condition of the world.
+Accuracy with a gun and the ability to hunt. Though Tino really doesn't want to harm another person, he will if needed, and his aim is always spot-on and deadly. This ability came from the Winter Wars. The ability to hunt seeded from his accuracy with a weapon.
+Keeping calm in a bad situation. Though Tino doesn't look it, he will know what to do in the face of danger, he'll know whether to fight or to flee, and he'll be able to predict the outcome to a degree, no matter if it's right or wrong.
Weaknesses:
-Berwald. His relationship with the Swede has always been rocky, but deep down, Tino knows that he loves the other man. After you've been with someone for that long, after you've gone through so much together, you're bound to harbor feelings for them.
-Peter. Another weakness of the man's, for he looks at the Sealandian as a child. It doesn't help that Peter call him 'mama'. If there's a threat to Peter, he won't hesitate to hurt the cause, no matter what harm it does to him.
-The dark. It terrifies him, because of all the bad memories entwined into it. The dark has effected him so much that he can't go into it alone. You can imagine how this weakness effects those around him.
-His family. Another understandable weakness, though his 'family' really isn't much more than a group of men, he loves them dearly and would absolutely hate to see them dissolve and grow apart. His real family, his blood-tied one has all perished in the course of the apocalypse. If anything were to happen to them, Tino would most likely break down. He hopes that nothing has happened to them since the separation.
Fears:
The dark. It holds a lot of bad memories for the man, and it only fuels his slight paranoia. He hates to be left alone in it, especially with no lantern or torch of the sort.
Being taken over by another country. Since the world is unstable and he isn't exactly as strong as he'd like be believe, this is one of the deep-rooted fears, that he'll once again be taken over by another Nation.
The death of a loved one. He knows that this world is slowly falling apart and becoming harder and harder to sustain oneself in. So, he will try his hardest to keep the others alive, even if it means his death, when he finds them.
Dying alone. Self-explanatory.
What happened before and shortly after the apocalypse?:
Before
The days before the apocalypse hit, Tino was readying his bomb shelter and making sure that there was enough food to sustain himself and two other people, along with the family pet. He wasn't about to take chances, though many others tried to tell him that nothing was going to happen, that it was all a hoax. He, with his cautious nature, decided to be safe anyways. As he was checking the house one more time, a giant snowstorm hit. Tino and Hanatamago were forced to find whatever shelter they could, the two huddling together beneath a fallen tree for warmth, watching in horror as the storm raged, a swirling white the last thing the Finn saw before closing his eyes. When it subsided, Tino realized that he was horribly lost. He and Hanatamago were both tired, hungry, and freezing, but the man refused to give up He walked, looking for any sign of life and for any shelter.
Just when he thought he'd found a safe place, the apocalypse hit. The Finn barely had time to run inside the abandoned cabin he'd found, and once more curled up with Hanatamago, praying that his family would survive, that he would survive. The earth trembled and the trees fell, asteroids and comets exploded down onto the earth, fires and storms of rain and snow raged. The earth and sky were meeting daily in a violent show, one the Finn was forced to watch. Tino thought it would never end, and the harder the natural disasters struck, the harder he prayed for his family. The roof caved in once, and he thought that this was it, this was the end...
But the Finn survived. What seemed like months had been simple days. Once all was calm again, Tino found that he was alright, that he hadn't died just yet. Out of relief, he fainted and slept for a few days, not having done so due to fear. When he awoke again, Hanatamago was wandering outside, looking for food, and Tino soon stumbled behind the dog, exhausted and starving.
After
At first, Tino didn't recognize the land he was in. Everything was coated in grey or broken down, a sad spectacle. The snow was stained almost black from all the damage it had been dealt. He wandered, wondering which direction his family was. Wondering if they had survived. Hanatamago walked beside him, Tino eventually snapping into survival mode once the shock had passed. Since he had guns with him, the Finn was able to survive in the wilderness, using makeshift items for warmth and shelter, whatever he could find. He ended up in a destroyed town, and after trying to find a map and having no luck, decided to wait there just in case Berwald was looking for him. He lives in one of the obstructed houses, near what used to be a grocery store. There isn't a day that goes by where the Finn worries about Berwald, Peter, Norge, Iceland, and even Denmark.
More than anything, he wants to see them again, or at least hear if they'd been killed. For now he waits, gathering supplies and doing what he has to to live in the broken world. The man is trying to go back to his home, though he has no idea where it is. He's grateful for Hanatamago's presence however, because the dog not only warns him of intruders, but keeps him mentally stable. Without the dog, Tino doesn't know what he'd do, for there is nothing for miles and miles beyond the town. So for now, he waits.

{Taken from where I'm a barmaid!Tino~}
'I could help out you know, around the bar I mean.'
When Tino heard Peter’s offer, he frowned a little. “I know you can sweetie, but…it’s open way too late for a boy your age to be up. Maybe when you’re a little older.” The classical parenting line. As he finished the next dish and placed it aside, he once again listened to the little blonde speak.'This is really good Mama Tino, you're the best chef ever.' His pale cheeks flushed darker pink and he smiled softly, starting the next breakfast. “Aw Peter, thank you…I just do my best.” He liked it when his cooking was praised, he really did. It made him feel important. Especially since Peter was technically royalty, he’d probably eaten much better food. Then came the next question.
'Hey Mama Tino, do you think maybe Uncle Nikolai will wanna take me out exploring today?'
Ah, exploring. The boy certainly did like to do that. Gnawing on his lip, he wondered how to answer. “Oh…hmm! If he doesn’t, then I’ll take you. It can be just you and me.” That wouldn’t be too hard to do, the bar opened at night after all. The rest could do some cleaning, it wouldn’t kill them. Besides which, truthfully…he would have liked to spend some time with his adopted child. Going outside would be great as well, he didn’t get enough sunlight as-is. There was a little bit of a safety issue with that, but Tino would take his pistol. He didn’t go anywhere without it these days. Then he started to think about his snowboots, where had they gone? Perhaps under the bed, or in the closet…
The last of the breakfast dishes were done, so Tino started to make his own. *Puuro with a little patch of *voisilmä, some strawberry jam to top it off. It was a simple enough meal, but sweet enough to suit the Finn’s tastes. He did have a sweet tooth after all. Then he started to make himself some coffee to go with it, making sure to add some sweetener to that too. Once his breakfast was done he sat at the table and let out a little breath before eating it all carefully, making sure not to drip any. In no time it was gone and he took both his own and Peter’s dishes, washing them before returning them to their place. “Where did you wanna go exploring, Peter?” He asked and dried his hands on his apron before hanging it back up, turning to look at the boy and grabbing his coffee mug off the table and taking a sip, awaiting the blonde’s answer.
